Many of us didn't grow up in a church so the term might seem a bit foreign to us. Others of us who have, are still often unclear about what it means. And for those who have been recently asking those "God" questions, it must seem too good to be true - this salvation thing. So what is salvation? Why is it so mysterious for the unchurched, so elusive for many followers, and so hard to believe for most of us?

For those who haven't always gone to church, or who have never gone to church, terms like sanctification and righteousness can sound like pig Latin. Among those terms, we often hear the most beautiful of them all, "salvation." Unfortunately, for more than just the unchurched, this word has left many asking what is salvation, and what does it mean for me?

In the simplest of terms, salvation is a free gift from God, the gift of an eternity spent with Him, living in the joy, peace, and love of His reign - and of His Son Jesus Christ. There is nothing we can do to earn this gift because it is a gift and gifts aren't earned. And therein lies the great problem because we have been taught and most of us have even learned that nothing in this world is free. So a gift like this? Ludicrous - right?

That is exactly right if it were a gift in and from this world, but it isn't.
