In today's world and time, our generation is becoming increasingly frightening and unbelievable of things that are going on. Murders, police killings, rapes, shootings on the freeway, just because someone cut in front of them. The darkness is constantly getting closer and closer to our immediate surroundings. What can we do to feel safe?
I heard a story told by a pastor who had two children that loved to take walks with their father. One evening while walking closely to their father in the dark night, because he had the flashlight, after a while the children were soon walking ahead of their father away from the reach of the light. Soon the children realized that they were walking further away from the light and further into the darkness, and called out to their father, "Daddy, hurry up, we're in the dark". The father quickly replied, "I have the light, you're walking away from me".

John 8:12:
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”
Many of us, like the two children, find ourselves walking in the darkness away from Jesus. We become bolder in our walk with our Lord and come to believe we can manage things on our own and find ourselves walking into situations we cannot oversee and soon cry out to our Lord, "Jesus, where are you, I thought You said that you were always going to be near me". We soon find out that it wasn't Jesus who walked away from us, but we, who walked too far away from Him, our Light.
In Psalms 119:105 say it very clearly: Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.
PERSONNAL COMMENT:
As we walk the journey of our life, let us not forget, that it is only through our "absolute and complete surrender" to our Lord in "all things" in our lives, that we will find true peace and rest for our souls, and we will never find ourselves walking in the darkness by ourselves ever again.
