I am reminded of a story told by a pastor long ago about why God calls His people sheep. As this pastor told the story, he said that sheep are not the brightest animals on the earth. And as you think about people in general, we are not the brightest when it comes to understanding God's ways and His direction for our lives.

Many people will follow and believe anything they are told or hear. We just accept it as gospel truth without any research or evidence. People will create idols out of gold or silver and worship these man-made things as a super-natural being.

But we as Christians have come to understand that we worship the God of this universe and the God who created the heavens and the earth. He is a God who proved Himself to us by coming down from His heavenly throne and became a man. He lived a perfect life for us, to meet His standards of His perfect law. He then crucified Himself for us, to pay the penalty of our sins so that we might choose to be with Him in heaven one day.

This God, who became a man, was named Jesus Christ, who has become our Good Shepard. As His sheep, we should know His voice and follow Him as He leads us in our life's venture. Read the following in the Book of John:

ree

John 10: 2-4

But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.

The question is this: Do you know the Good Shepard? Do you hear His voice when He is calling you? I know for myself, I did not and could not hear His voice in my life as a Christian. There were times I even wondered if I had truly accepted Him into my life. It wasn't until I came to full and absolute surrender in my life to Him that I began hearing His voice daily in my life. He is with me every moment of every day and I know in my heart that He truly loves me. Can you say the same? If you can, praise God that you know God intimately. If you can't, then here is the secret to getting to know your God and Savior in a very intimate way.

PERSONNAL COMMENT:

First, we must be willing to give up everything of ourselves to Him. We must be willing to surrender every room in our life. We cannot hold back anything from Him. He already knows what we are holding on to anyway, so just give it to Him.

And then, and most importantly, we must be willing to commit to Him daily to be with Him in reading His Word, our bible, so that we can get to know Him better. He is in the Holy Scriptures and the Holy Spirit, who already lives in us, will reveal His Word to us and we will get to know Him in ways we never thought was possible. But remember, always be continually surrendered to God daily. It is a constant commitment of surrendering, but we will find that His calling to us, His voice, will become clearer every day.
