February 04, 2022: The Lord God Wants Fellowship with Us as He Did with Moses. Do We Want the Same?

As I read the story of Moses and the people of Israel as they left Egypt to go to the Promise Land, that God had promised Abraham, I am amazed at the relationship that Moses had with God. Moses communed with God daily, speaking with Him about the problems he was having with the people of Israel.

The people of Israel were a difficult group of people. God, at many times, called them a "stiff-neck people". “I have seen these people,” the Lord said to Moses, “and they are a stiff-necked people. (Exodus 32: 9) Being called a "stiff-neck" people is not a good thing. It is describing a very "stubborn" group of people.

When I think of myself before I became a Christian, and even after, I was a very stubborn person. I always wanted things my way. The Israelites were constantly complaining about not having enough water, enough food, or they would say: "We should have stayed in Egypt where we had everything". They were never satisfied.

Moses, on the other hand, had a one-on-one relationship with God. The Lord spoke to Moses as a friend. Moses would act as a "mediator" for the Israelites.

Exodus 33: 11

The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.

As Christians, we also have a mediator. A Person who intercedes for us for the things we need. Our "Mediator" knows how we feel...He knows the pain and the struggles we will go through. Our Mediator is Jesus Christ. He will intercede for us as Moses did for the Israelites.

I Timothy 2: 5-6

For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all people.

For Moses to have such a relationship with God, he had to become broken first. God had sent Moses to the desert of Midian for forty years before God was ready to use him. We too must become broken to begin to have a relationship with our God. We must be willing to be "fully surrendered" before God. We must become broken before God can use us as well. Moses had asked God that if He were pleased with him, would He teach him His ways that he may know Him better.

Exodus 33: 13-14

If You are pleased with me, teach me Your ways so I may know You and continue to find favor with You. Remember that this nation is Your people.” 14 The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

PERSONNAL COMMENT:

We too can get to know God as Moses did. By accepting Jesus into our hearts and life, we are now "children of God", we are heirs to His kingdom. We too can find the "true rest" we seek in our lives. All we need to do is "fully surrender" ourselves to our Lord and God and beginning enjoying the nurturing relationship with our Heavenly Father.
