This first question is very interesting. At first I wondered why the author, Andrew Murray, choose thes verses in I Kings 20: 1-4. As you read the verses you find out that Ahab, king of Israel, only had two options after being surrounded by Ben-hadad, of Syria.

King Ahab could choose to fight the king of Syria and all the other armies surrounding him, or totally surrender. As stated in the passage, King Ahab choose the latter, surrender.

The choice is also the same for us as Christians. But there is a big difference...With God, He doesn't surround us with armies ready to destroy us. No, He surrounds us with His love, His army of angels, and His promises of grace and mercy.

The choose is ours to take. Do we choose our own ways and take the chance that things may turn out okay, or trust God and His promises that He has given us.

Let me know what you think. Make a comment.

QUESTION: 1

Upon reading the opening paragraph from chapter one, taken from I Kings 20:1-4, what is your understanding that Ahab, King of Israel, is saying to Ben-Hadad, the King of Syria when he replies and says; “My lord, O king, according to thy saying, I am thine and all that I have”. (Page 1)

ANSWER To Question 1 (As stated by the Author)

"What Ben Hadad asked was absolute surrender; and what Ahab gave was what was asked of him-absolute surrender. I want to use these words: "My lord, O king, according to thy saying, I am thine, and all that I have," as the words of absolute surrender with which every child of God ought to yield himself to his Father.

This next question is not from the book, but more of a personal question addressed to all of you who are reading this blog. I personally can answer the question now, but it's not what I would have said some many years ago as a young Christians.

QUESTION 2:

What do you personally believe, at this moment in your life: What does “surrender” mean to you?

Send me a comment of what you think at this moment in your life what "surrender" means to you.
