In the Book of Matthew beginning in Chapter 5: 1-11, Jesus proclaims those words in His Sermon of the Mount. And in the Old Testament, the very first Psalm also states: "Blessed is he" who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked.

What I did not understand in reading those words of Jesus, is that the statement of: Blessed Are Those" is not a state of "wishful thinking" or to "invoke a blessing" from God. It is a "state of mind" in one's life. These words recognize an "existing state" of happiness or good fortune. They affirm or confirm a present reality or point out a "state of spirituality" that is already present in one's life.

Wow...Imagine to be able to walk this way all the time...To always know that we are "blessed", always at peace with God. Is that even possible? The answer is "yes", it is possible. But the only way to be in this "state of mind" in one's life is to be "totally and absolutely surrendered" before God. We must be willing to surrender all our "self-will" to God.

We must be willing to get out of the way of ourselves and let God take full control of every aspect of our lives. You're probably thinking, "I can't do that". Most people can't. Most people want to hold on to some form of control of their lives. But look at how our lives have turned out by keeping some sort of control. Are you blessed and happy of where you are at in your life? I probably could say..."I don't think so". The bible verse that comes to mind in dealing with our "self-control" is found in the Book of Proverbs:

ree

Proverbs 3: 5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart

and lean not on your own understanding.

6 In all your ways submit to Him,

and He will make your paths straight.

In this proverb it states: Trust in the Lord "with all your heart", not partially. And not to lean on "our own understanding", which we typically do. In all our way "submit to Him" and look what happens next: “He will make our paths straight."

PERSONNAL COMMENT:

The question is this: Do we want to be one of those who is constantly "Blessed"? If we say yes to this question...then we must be willing to be "absolutely surrendered" at all times to our God. Follow Jesus' teaching in His word, the bible, and begin to see how our life will become blessed all the time.
