In reading today's "Our Daily Bread", in the book of Genesis of chapter 22, I was reminded of the story of Abraham and his son Isaac. God was going to test Abraham in his faith and the promise God gave Abraham about becoming the "Father of many nations".

Abraham knew that Isaac was going to be his first and only son from Sarah. But God now was telling Abraham to go and offer up his son as a burnt offering to Him.

Genesis 22: 1-2 (NKJV)

Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 2 Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”

What is amazing in this story is that the bible, God's word, never states that Abraham was worried all night long about what he was about to do. He didn't pace back and forth. He didn't seek consul or speak to his wife Sarah about it.

The next morning Abraham woke up refreshed and began splitting the wood for the burnt offering he was about to perform with his son Isaac. He asked two of his young men to join him for this journey.

Genesis 22: 3-5

3 So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted his eyes and saw the place afar off. 5 And Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you.”

Now here is the amazing part of this story. As Abraham, Isaac, and the two young men arrived at the place God had told Abraham, he told the two young men to wait behind as he and Isaac went ahead to worship. And then Abraham said to the young men: "and we will come back to you".

Wow! Abraham never doubted God about His promise that he would be the "Father of many nations". Abraham knew God was in control of all things. Abraham wasn't worried of how or what or when God would do. He believed in God and moved forward in what God was telling him to do.

PERSONNAL COMMENT:

The question comes down to this: Do we fear or worry in the promises God has given to us? Do we lay up all night thinking of how God is going to do this "prayer request" we have asked of Him? Let us come to God in "full and absolute surrender" to Him and trust His every word and promises He has given us. Let us not worry in the details of God's working in our lives. Let us move forward in full trust in Him.
