While reading this morning in "Our Daily Bread" devotional, the Book of Exodus tells the story of when Moses lead the people of Israel out of Egypt after being in bondage for four hundred and thirty years.
God had put Pharaoh and the whole land of Egypt through many plagues before His final plague of the death of the first-born of everyone throughout the land. But God had told Moses that He would not kill the first-born of the Israelites as long as they did what God had told them to do. They were to take a lamb and kill it and then take the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the house where they were to eat the sacrificed lamb.
Exodus: 12: 22-23 (NKJV)
And you shall take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin. And none of you shall go out of the door of his house until morning. 23 For the Lord will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to strike you.
As I read the above passage, I realized the symbolism that this passage brings for us as God's children in today's corrupt world. As this world comes closer and closer to God's final judgement, I realized that we as Christians, do not have to worry about God judgement coming upon our house. We have the "Blood of Jesus" on the doorposts and lintel of our hearts and lives.
When each and every one of us invites Jesus into our hearts, upon our surrender to Him for our sinful life, we were acknowledging to God that we need Him, and the "Blood of Jesus" becomes our "Passover" of the judgement of God. When God's judgment does finally come upon this sinful world, God will see the "Blood of Jesus" on our doorposts and lintel and pass over us. Just as God brought out the Israelites out of Egypt, a land of bondage and slavery, God, through the blood of His Son Jesus, has brought us out of the land of bondage and slavery as well. That bondage was the bondage of sin in our lives.
Exodus: 13: 14 (NIV)
“In days to come, when your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ say to him, ‘With a mighty hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
PERSONNAL COMMENT:
As we give our lives over to God by our "absolute surrender" to Him, we are free to live a life of freedom with God. We can now have a closer relationship with our God, because He no longer see the sins in our lives, but He sees the "Blood of Jesus". And with the Blood of Jesus covering our hearts, there is no further fear of God's judgement for us. Praise God for His everlasting love for us!
