In Psalm 18 is a Song of Praise to the Lord from King David. David was considered a “man after [God’s] own heart” (1 Samuel 13: 14; Acts 13: 22). David continued to serve God throughout all his years. Despite David's sin of adulty and then murder of Uriah, Bathsheba husband, David repented of his sin and humbled himself before his God, and God restored his relationship to Himself.
God will never force us to be faithful to Him...It is a choice we must make every day of our lives. It is because of God's love for us, that He lets us "choose for or against Him".
Our first choice for Him happens when we receive His Son, Jesus Christ, as the sacrifice for our sins (1 John 4: 9-10). After that, we have a lifetime of decisions to make. Read the following:

Psalm 18: 20-21
He Lord rewarded me for doing right;
He restored me because of my innocence.
21 For I have kept the ways of the Lord;
I have not turned from my God to follow evil.
Our faithfulness to God is dependent wholly on ourselves, not on God's love for us. He has already proven His love for us by offering His Son, Jesus Christ, on the cross for us. Our daily commitment comes through our "continued surrender" to Him and our willingness to serve Him through our "whole heart".
Psalm 18: 22-24
I have followed all his regulations;
I have never abandoned his decrees.
23 I am blameless before God;
I have kept myself from sin.
24 The Lord rewarded me for doing right.
He has seen my innocence.
God knows our most intimate thoughts. He knows what we desire and want in life. Will we choose faithfulness to God as His Holy Spirit guides us or let the world entice us? We cannot hide these things from Him.
PERSONNAL COMMENT:
Let us choose God. Let us come to "full and absolute surrender" to Him. We cannot live this life by our own strength. We must be willing to "die-to-self" daily "and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus, (Philippians 4: 7).
