In today's reading of "Our Daily Bread", (James 3:1-6), we are reminded of how powerful our small tongue can create such huge fires in our lives. As the author of the book of James say:
"5 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell".
Let us not forget, it is only through our absolute surrender to our Lord, and allowing the Holy Spirit to fully control our hearts and minds, can we fully please God. It is through the "Spirituality of Heart"... that is the changing of our heart from "self-centeredness" to our full submission to our Lord, can we begin to please God. Let's remember what King David said:
Psalm 51:17; My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and "contrite heart" you, God, will not despise. (NIV)
As we come to allow the Holy Spirit to control our hearts and minds through our "surrender", we will begin to see the "fruits of the Spirit" manifested in our lives;
Galatians 5: 22-23; But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Let us live our lives in absolute surrender to our Lord and Holy Spirit and be at "true rest" with our Lord and with others in our lives.
