July 09, 2021: Our Life is A Gift from God. Let's Not Take for Granted This Gift by Questioning Him.

As I come to the last few chapters of the Book of Job, I am reminded of how often we want to question God as to "why" we go through certain trials and struggles in our life. Through over 30 chapters, Job's friends, and Job himself, question God and/or accused Job of his character. His friends assured Job that he must be in sin to be suffering such a great trial.

Then finally, God shows up at the scene. At first, God questions Job as to; "who is he" to question God for what He allows to happen to man. Where was Job when God created the foundations of the earth? And God tells Job: "Tell Me, if you have understanding". (v. 38: 4)

Job 38: 1-6 (NKJV)

Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said:

2 “Who is this who darkens counsel By words without knowledge? 3 Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me.

4 “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. 5 Who determined its measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? 6 To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone,

As God continues to point out to Job that he has no understanding as to how the earth and universe was created and how the stars and His creatures on earth was established, Job finally responds, followed by a response from God:

Job 40: 4-5 (NKJV)

“Behold, I am vile; What shall I answer You? I lay my hand over my mouth.

5 Once I have spoken, but I will not answer; Yes, twice, but I will proceed no further.”

Verses: 6-8 (NKJV)

Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said:

7 “Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me:

8 “Would you indeed annul My judgment? Would you condemn Me that you may be justified?

Job finally realized that no matter how good of a person and life he led prior to this trial, he was still a "vile and wretched" man in God's eyes. We have not the right to question the Almighty God as to why He allows specific things to happen in our life. All is for "our good". He is a loving father who loves and cares for His children.

PERSONNAL COMMENT:

Let us always remember, even though we are saved by God's grace and given the gift of eternal life through His Son, Jesus Christ, we still have this "sinful-nature" that we must contend with daily in our lives. We must choose to always be surrendered and humble before our Lord and God. Let us not make the mistake of Job. Let us not think that just because we live a good and righteous life, that we are "righteous" by nature. We are given this "righteous life" by the grace and gift from God.
