At the time of the reign of Jehoshaphat, King of Judah, a great multitude of many nations were coming to battle against the King to destroy the kingdom of Judah and Jerusalem. Great fear fell upon the King and the people of Judah, so the King gathered all the people and they prayed to God for His protection. They petitioned God to remember His promises that He gave to their ancestors, after their exodus from Egypt. (2 Chron. 20: 6-9)

2 Chronicles 20: 1-4

It happened after this that the people of Moab with the people of Ammon, and others with them besides the Ammonites, came to battle against Jehoshaphat. 2 Then some came and told Jehoshaphat, saying, “A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea, from Syria; and they are in Hazazon Tamar” (which is En Gedi). 3 And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. 4 So Judah gathered together to ask help from the Lord; and from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord.

Then the Spirit of Lord came upon Jahaziel, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, to bring a message to King Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah:

2 Chronicles 20: 15, 17

15 And he said, “Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

17 You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you.”

Many times, we will come to face many battles in our lives. These battles come in many different forms: financial, marital, sickness, even death. But God tells not to fear for the battle is not ours, it is His. But there is an important task we must first do, so that God can do His work on our behalf.

We must come and humble ourselves before Him. We must be willing to "stand still", and "surrender" all to Him and allow Him to be in full control of every part of our lives. Then, and only then, can He move through our lives, with the power of the Holy Spirit and be in control and His will be done to His glory.

PERSONNAL COMMENT:

As we begin to see the battles come our ways and begin to fear, let us remember that the battles are not ours, but that they belong to God, if we will only allow them to be.
