Our identity in who we are wavers so much during our lifetime. Being a parent, what type of job or career I have, am I a good person. All these descriptions in who we are and what we do in life places a heavy burden on ourselves.

But all this does not matter in God's eyes. If we have put our faith in His Son, Jesus Christ, we are now His children. That is all that should matter, being a child of His and living a life that pleases Him.

In the Book of Ephesians, the Apostle Paul, describes our role as children of God on how we should act and what we need to do to please our Heavenly Father.

ree

Ephesians 5: 1-2

Therefore, be imitators of God as dear children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

Then Paul goes on to say what things we should not be doing if we are truly God's children.

Ephesians 5: 3-5

But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; 4 neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. 5 For this you know that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

It is essential to believers in Jesus that we understand that we are the children of the living God. The Apostle Paul gives us the key to how we are to live in that knowledge: “as dearly loved children, . . . walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us” (vv. 1–2).

As stated, time and time again, the only way to be able to walk in this manner, "to walk in the way of love, as Jesus did", is not by our strength, but by the "full power of the Holy Spirit" controlling our minds and hearts. We, as children of God, must be "fully and absolutely surrendered" before God in our daily walk to Him. We need to wake up every morning and ask God to keep ourselves fully surrendered until the time comes when it is completely lodged in our minds and heart and that we no longer need to remind ourselves because it is now part our daily way to live..."fully and absolutely surrendered" to Him.

Our transformation in being God's children is a lifetime process until we are taken home to be with our Lord and then given a new body, without corruption and sin. Let us not forget 2 Corinthians 5: 17: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new".

PERSONNAL COMMENT:

In today's "Our Daily Bread" devotional, the section ending with "Reflect & Pray", ended with the following: "Father, life in all its fulness is Your alone to give. I open my hands to accept it". Open your hands and your heart fully to God and accept the love He has waiting for you.
