In today's Our Daily Bread, in the 6th chapter of the Book of John, Jesus is speaking to

the people about what is important for their lives. Jesus had just fed the five thousand the previous day and the people continually seek Him to be fed again.

John 6: 26-27 (NKJV)

26 Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27 Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.”

We too can be like the people of that time. We can seek Jesus for the wrong reasons. In our prayers we ask Him for material things and for the essential things of life, but God already knows that we need them. What we should be seeking from Jesus is righteousness and wisdom from above, God's direction for our lives, and most importantly our love for God. These desires and wants should be the most important things we seek; all the rest will be given to us from God because He knows that we need them.

Matthew 6: 31-33 (NKJV)

“Therefore, do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Jesus is the "Bread of Life" and the "Eternal Well of Water" that we need and seek. He is the only One who can fill all the empty areas of our life and meet the deepest thirst we will ever desire. Let us come to "absolute surrender" to Him today and let Him fill our needs.

John 6: 35-37 (NKJV)

And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. 36 But I said to you that you have seen Me and yet do not believe. 37 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.

PERSONNAL COMMENT:

Let us come to Jesus now and let Him give us the "bread and water" we seek, not for here on earth, but for our "eternal salvation" and eternity with Him in heaven. Remember, all who come to Him, will never go hungry.
