In today's Our Daily Bread, the commentary deals with the dynamics of "power walking". As stated in this article: "Power walking involves an intentional restraint, a reining in of the body’s natural inclination to run. Although it doesn’t look like it, there is just as much energy, focus, and power involved as in running or jogging. But it’s under control".

The writer continues to state: "Power under control—that’s the key. Biblical humility, like power walking, is often viewed as weakness. The truth is, it’s not. Humility isn’t diminishing our strengths or abilities, but rather allowing them to be reined in much like the arms and legs and feet guided by the mind of an early morning power walker".

When you think of Jesus, He was the ultimate example of "power under control" He was God in the form of a man who came to this earth to die for our sins. He had the full power of God who choose not to use His powers, but humbly kept His powers under control to serve the humanity, us, so that He may pay for the penalty of our sins for us, which was death. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom, 6: 23)

Micah: 6: 8 (NIV)

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.

And what does the Lord require of you?

To act justly and to love mercy,

and to walk humbly with your God.

Micah’s words “walk humbly” are a call for us to rein in our "wants and desires" in wanting to go ahead of God. He says, “to act justly and to love mercy” (6:8), and that can bring with it a desire to do something and do it fast. That is fair since the daily injustices in our world are so overwhelming. But we are to be "controlled and directed" by God.

Our tendencies are to want to fight back quickly in our circumstances of life. But God say, “to act justly and to love mercy”, not to go ahead of Him, but to "surrender all" to Him and trust Him fully. Our goal is to see "His will and purposes" accomplished in our lives, not ours.

PERSONNAL COMMENT:

Are you ready to rein in your control of your life? Are you ready to "absolutely surrender" all to Him and allow Him to give you the "true rest" you desire? Let today be that day!
