May 26, 2021: Is Our Lives Always in Drive or Do We Allow Ourselves to Be Placed in Neutral for God?

In the Book of 1 Kings, the prophet Elijah served God in the Northern Kingdom of Israel, during the reign of King Ahab, along with his wife Jezebel. Both she and King Ahab worshiped the false prophet of Baal and murdered many of God's other prophets.

Elijah was on a mission as well, and he was busy serving God in big ways. He had just defeated the prophets of Baal in a supernatural showdown, which left him drained. He was now on the run from King Ahab and Jezebel for fear of his life for what he had just completed.

God brought Elijah to Mount Horeb, where He had appeared to Moses long before. Elijah needed a time for his life to be placed in neutral. He needed time with God to be refreshed in his spirit. It was here, at Mount Horeb, that God made Himself present before Elijah.

1 Kings 9: 11-12 (NKJV)

Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

“When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out” (v. 13) to meet God. It was here that Elijah humbled himself before God and allowed himself to be refreshed in his spirit once again.

We too, run through life serving God in many ways, always having our lives in "drive". We forget that there is a "neutral" gear as well. There is a purpose for neutral in a vehicle. It is a time to give the engine a rest. Same goes for us. We need a time for neutral in our lives. But our time "in neutral" should be "absolutely surrendered" before our Lord and God so that we can commune with God and allow the Holy Spirit to show us His love and a time for instructions for our frustrated life we live in this very evil world.

Psalm 46: 1-2; 10-11 10 (NKJV)

God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.

2 Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed,

And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea.

10 Be still and know that I am God.

I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth!

11 The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge.

PERSONNAL COMMENT

Do you feel your life is always rushed and you feel frustrated in everything you are doing? Then allow God to help you place your life into "neutral". Allow Him the time and space to help you find your "time of rest" with Him.
