November 19, 2021: Is the Power of the Holy Spirt Alive Today in Our Lives as He Was Before?

In the Book of Acts, we are reminded of Jesus' ascension into heaven and the promise He gave to His apostles, that He would send the Holy Spirit upon His leaving. As I read the passage, I was overwhelmed and amazed of the power that came upon the Apostles when the Holy Spirit came upon them. Read the following in the Book of Acts:

Acts 2: 1-4

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Each apostle was given the power to speak in different languages for the sake of the people that had come from "every nation under heaven". And then the Apostle Peter stood up boldly and spoke about Jesus to the thousands of Jewish people that had come for the Festival of Pentecost.

Peter went on to say how God had sent His Son, Jesus of Nazareth, to die for their sins and how they allowed the wicked men of their time to nail their Messiah on the cross.

Acts 2: 22-24

“Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. 23 This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. 24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him".

As Peter had finish speaking to the thousands of "God-fearing" Jewish people that had come, they were "cut to the heart". The power of God's message of Jesus cut them deep within their heart...to the point of repentance.

Acts 2: 37-39

When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

As I finished my reading in the Book of Acts, I also was "cut to the heart", realizing that many times in my walk with God, I do not rely on the "Power of the Holy Spirit" in my life. I rely mostly on my selfish desires. May God convict us all of the wasted power we do not take into account that is available to us through the Holy Spirit.

PERSONNAL COMMENT:

As we have all come to understand, this blog is about "salvation and surrender". And if there is ever a time to once again, remind everyone who reads this blog, the power of our "absolute surrender" to God, releases the full power of the Holy Spirit to work through us. This same power that was alive in the Apostle at the time of the Book of Acts, is alive in us today. Let us not waste this power...Let us commit to a life of "absolute surrender" to God, so that the power of Holy Spirit can work His power through us, as He has been doing from the time of the Apostles in the Book of Acts. May God bless us through our surrender as well.
