In the Book of Jeremiah, the Lord directs Jeremiah to tell the people of Judah how they have turned their backs on Him and how much He has shown His love for them, despite their consistent rebelliousness.

Jeremiah 2: 13 (NKJV)
For My people have committed two evils:
They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters,
And hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water.
After all that God had done for the people of Israel...leading them out of captivity from Egypt, protecting them day and night, providing for all their needs, they still were not satisfied. They would say with their mouth how much they loved God, but from their hearts they were still not satisfied. They created idols from wood and iron to worship and pray to.
We too, as Christians, do the same. We put many idols before God such as our desire for more money, our work, and even our family. God wants to be the center of our hearts and minds. He has proven His love for us many times over, especially His greatest love of offering His Son, Jesus Christ, on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins so that we may have a relationship with Him.
Our self-centeredness keeps us from working as "one body" for God and we tend to function as individual pieces instead of one whole church. It is through our independence that the world cannot see God's pure love through us.
Jesus' love for us was unconditional. He went obediently to the cross for us. All God asks of us is to love one another so that the world can see "His love" through us.
PERSONNAL COMMENT:
Let us put God first in our lives...Let us not forget or turn away from Him. Let us "fully surrender" all of who we are to Him and allow the "power of the Holy Spirit" to work through us so that He can draw the people around us to Him.
