Jesus once told a Pharisee, who had invited Him to his home for dinner, said the following: "But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.” (Luke 7: 47b)

We, as new-born-Christians, come to Jesus because we have come to recognize that we are sinful people and of need of a Savior. So, we give our hearts to Jesus and ask Him to come into our hearts and change us from who we have become.

Many of us have led a life of great sin and others have had a life not so bad, but knew they were missing something in their life and turned to Jesus, and He filled that emptiness in their hearts. Read the complete story Jesus told this Pharisee in Luke 7: 36-48. The following is part of that story:

Luke 7: 41-47

41 “Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. 42 Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?”

43 Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.”

“You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.

44 Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”

We too have been forgiven much as well. But many times, we do not seem to recognize it in our lives. I was shared an illustration many years ago of how much we have or can sin over our lifetime. Suppose we only sinned say, two or three times per day. This would include our anger, bad thoughts, lustful eyes, etc. Now, times that by the number of years you may live, 60, 70, or maybe 80 years old. That would equal 70,000, 80,000 over 1000,000 sins over our lifetime. Wow, that is a lot of sins, and that was based on only 2 to 3 sins per day.

You see, when Jesus took our sins upon Him on the cross, He forgave us for all our sins, past, present, and future sins in our lives. We have much to be thankful for. The questions is this; Have we wept over our sins as this women did with Jesus? Do we recognize that we are "wretched sinners", (Romans 7:24)? "Yes, forgiven", but still a sinner. The only way I can keep my right perspective in my heart with God, is to know that I am a "wretched sinner", always be "absolutely surrendered", and walk by the grace of God He has given me through His Son, Jesus. It is by God's grace I am able to commune with God and know that I am forgiven.

PERSONNAL COMMENT:

Let us not forget where we came from and where we are now going because of what our Savior has done for us. Let us show our Lord Jesus, and our Heavenly Father the love they truly deserve. Let us share this love to others that they too can come to recognize the love that is waiting for them as well.
