"One of the worst things sin did for man was to make him selfish, for selfishness cannot love", as stated by Andrew Murray, in his book, Absolute Surrender.

It is because of one man's sin, Adam, that every person born after him, was born into "selfishness". Selfishness has continually ruled our world and man has never been satisfied with what he receives. We always seem to want more and more.

But just as one man's sin entered this world, one Man's sacrifice, (Jesus Christ), conquered that sin, once and for all. The Lord Jesus Christ came down from Heaven as the Son of God. "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son" (John 3:16).

God's Son came to show what love is, and He lived a life of love here upon earth in fellowship with His disciples, in compassion over the poor and miserable, even to His enemies, and He died the death of love. And when He went to Heaven, whom did He send down? The Spirit of love, to come and banish selfishness, envy, and pride, and bring the love of God into the hearts of men. "The fruit of the Spirt is love."

We can never overcome this "sin of selfishness" on our own. Upon receiving Jesus into our hearts and receiving His free gift of Heaven, (salvation), we are now promised a place with Him in Heaven, but while we are still here on this earth, we struggle everyday with this "selfish flesh" of ours. The only way we can overcome this constant pull of selfishness in our hearts is to die to self, daily.

Romans 7: 4-6

4 So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. For when we were in the realm of the flesh, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in us, so that we bore fruit for death. But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

PERSONNAL COMMENT:

You see when Christ died on the cross, He fulfilled the whole Law of God, we no longer live under the "law", we live by the "grace" that God has passed to us by His Son, Jesus Christ. And by accepting Jesus into our hearts, we receive the Holy Spirt, the "Spirt of Love" to rule over our hearts. It is only through our death of self, daily, and our "absolute surrender" to God, that we can love as we should once again before sin entered this world through Adam. Praise God that Jesus Christ conquered sin once and for all, so that we can love again as we should.
