Many times, when we pray and ask God for various things in our life, we tend to pray and not believe that what we are asking for, we will receive. Our unbelief can become a great obstacle of trust in our relationship with God.

I am reminded of the story of Jesus and the father of a son who was mute from childhood and had a spirit that would cause convulsions and would fall to the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth.

Mark 9: 17-18 (NKJV)

17 Then one of the crowd answered and said, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a mute spirit. 18 And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. So I spoke to Your disciples, that they should cast it out, but they could not.”

The father of the son had taken his son to Jesus' disciples first, but they could not cast the evil spirit out of the son. Jesus then intervened with the father and asked the father if he believed. Read the following:

Mark 9: 21-24 (NKJV

21 So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?”

And he said, “From childhood. 22 And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”

23 Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”

24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”

You see, the father had faith and belief in Jesus (in his mind) that He could do all things, but the father also knew in his heart that he lacked the belief that he needed to truly believe. So, the father then asked Jesus to help him in his unbelief, "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”

I have heard from many Christians that they have surrender to God, but still struggle in many areas of their life and wonder why. To this I can only say, that if you have prayed to God to surrender all to Him, and still lack the belief in your heart, then I would ask as the father of the son did, "God, help my unbelief." Then we must believe in our hearts that God will accept our surrender because of who God is, a loving and caring Father, and is bound to care and keep our surrender.

PERSONNAL COMMENT:

Remember this important thought...God wants and expects our surrender to Him as His children. And once we pray our surrender to Him, He will follow through in our surrender daily as we stay close to Him and believe in our hearts His love and care for us is everlasting. Let God work out your surrender in Him through the power of the Holy Spirit.
